Salvatore A. "Chom" Tabone

Salvatore A. “Chom” Tabone, 86 of Batavia, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born in Batavia, October 29, 1938 to the late Charles and Margaret (Cusimano) Tabone. He was brother of the late Dominic, Phillip, Joseph, Lena Ferrara, Sarah Vito, Charles and Anthony. He was caring uncle to the late Donnie Tabone, Eleanor Thuotte and John Vito.

Mr. Tabone was a graduate of LeRoy High School Class of 1956 and attended Alfred Agricultural and Technical Program Studies. He was a proud United States Army Veteran having served from 1961-1963. Mr. Tabone was a member of Resurrection Parish and was employed for many years as a Communications Specialist at Kodak, Rochester Communications, VAMC Batavia and WCCH. He was also a successful car salesman having worked at LeRoy Motors and Esquire Auto. He was, up until 2025, an 18 year seasonal employee of Batavia Downs, OTB Division. 

Chom liked to travel and spent the last 25 years in Cape Coral, Florida and North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during the winter season. He was especially fond of the bond he formed with his “fur babies”, Kramer, Kandi and Owie who he spent much time with and they will, undoubtedly miss all the attention he gave them.Mr. Tabone was a past member of LeRoy Country Club, member of the LeRoy semi-pro football team, an avid NY Yankees fan and true believer in the Buffalo Bills. He was humbly appreciative having received the LeRoy Oatka Knights 2018 Hall of Fame Award and shared this honor with his family, friends and members of his family that predeceased him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diana (Emery) Tabone, two sisters, Margaret (Anthony) Cusmano of Attica; Carol Tabone of Spencerport; sisters-in-law, Martha Tabone of LeRoy and Sharon Hartman of Batavia, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 10am to 12 Noon where a brief service will follow at Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. He will be laid to rest at Western New York National Cemetery, Corfu.
