Robert William Martin

Robert William Martin, 76, of Rochester, and formerly of Alexander and Batavia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 25 at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Bob was born on April 19, 1949, in Batavia, the son of the late Hugo and Victoria (Staba) Martin. He attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1968. He also attended GCC and MCC. On August 31, 1974, he married the love of his life, Denise Donato, and together they shared more than 51 years of marriage.

He spent the majority of his career working in circulation for regional news publications, including as a circulation director with The Daily News. A devoted and hands-on father, Bob found great joy in coaching his kids' Tri-Town softball and baseball teams. Following the loss of their son, Chris, in 1995, Bob and Denise, along with close friends, worked to establish the Chris Martin Memorial Field of Dreams, a lasting tribute that continues to serve young athletes in Alexander and the surrounding communities.

Bob was a man of integrity and quiet strength. He took immense pride in his family. When not surrounded by his loved ones, he was happiest on a golf course. He was a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, had a deep interest in history, was an avid reader, and cherished his regular trips to California to visit family. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his wit, and the genuine care he showed others, as well as his appreciation for good people and good music.

In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his son, Christopher Michael Martin; his daughter, Andrea Renee Martin; his father- and mother-in-law, Renato and Mary Louise (Renzulli) Donato; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Donato.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Denise Martin of Rochester; his son, Justin Martin of Rochester; his daughter, Lisa (Frankie) Valenzuela of Rochester; his sister, Kathy (Darrel) Kinkaid of Paso Robles, California; his brother, Daniel (Linda) Martin of Williamsburg, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Renato (Patricia) Donato, Jr. of Englewood, Florida; his nieces, Laura Badawy, Melissa Martin, and Ashley (Eric) Koedel; his nephew, Matt (Tera) Kinkaid; as well as several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, his dog, Zeke.

The Martin family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jenn DeClerck for the compassion and comfort she brought to Bob and his loved ones.
