Richard "Dick" H. Hartman

Richard "Dick" H. Hartman, 83 of Batavia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born October 4, 1941 in Batavia, to the late Howard C. and Doris (Shamp) Hartman Sr.

Mr. Hartman proudly served in the National Guard. He retired as a Lieutenant in the City of Batavia Fire Department after 28 years of service and was awarded Fireman of the year in 1979. He also worked 12 years at Sylvania, 20 years for the City of Batavia Water Department and Gilmartin Funeral Home. 

Dick loved traveling, dining, dancing and a good Manhattan with the love of his life Sherry. He coached youth baseball, served as President of the Batavia Blue Devil’s Football Boosters and loved watching both of his sons shine on the gridiron. Dick was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish. He was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. Dick, enjoyed decorating for the holidays and helping anyone in need.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sharon "Sherry" A. (Emery) Hartman of Batavia, children, Dawn Marie (Timothy) Claus of Batavia, Kevin (Lisa) Hartman of Cicero, Richard M. (Eleni) Hartman of Gates, grandsons, Kyle Halladay and Ty Hartman, brother, Howard (Kathy) Hartman Jr, sister-in-law, Diana (Salvatore) Tabone, nephew, Scott (Melinda) Hartman and niece, Jody (Scott) Nichols.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 4 to 7pm at Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. A 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Resurrection Parish, 303 East Main Street, Batavia, NY 14020. He will be laid to rest in Grand View Cemetery.
