Philip J. Fraterrigo, 83, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026 at his home surrounded by loved ones after battling cancer. He was born, February 15, 1943 in Batavia, to the late Joseph and Lena (DiSanto) Fraterrigo. He is preceded in death by sisters Loretta and Mary Noel.
Philip was a proud United States Air Force Veteran. He worked for many years as a Correctional Officer at Attica Correctional Facility and survived the riot of 1971. He went on to retire from National Fuel Gas.
He loved gardening and was most proud of his garlic. Philip loved being outdoors with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra (Lang), five children; Maria (Richard) DeFreeze, Lisa (Andrew) Reed, Christopher (Stacey), Michelle (Kevin Casserly) Fraterrigo, Matthew (Nicolette), 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers; Gerald (Sharon) and Mark, along with several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Resurrection Parish 303 E. Main St. in Batavia. He will be laid to rest with Military Honor’s at Western New York National Cemetery, Corfu at 11:00AM. Anyone planning on attending the Committal Service, please arrive promptly at 10:45AM.
