Patricia A. Moretto

Patricia A. Moretto of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026 at the age of 89. She was born on December 2, 1936 in Batavia NY and graduated from Batavia High School in 1954. After graduating from Ithaca College in 1960, she enjoyed a 33-year career
as a high school and middle school Physical Education and Health teacher including positions in Long Island, NY, Augsburg, Germany (US Army Base), Batavia High School and Attica Middle School.

During her student years, she participated in Cheerleading, Field Hockey and Track and was voted Best Athlete at Batavia High School in 1954. In 2003, she was inducted into the Batavia Blue Devils Hall of Fame. As a teacher, students will remember her as a Volleyball and Field Hockey coach but she elevated all sports in the schools by introducing several programs.

She started the Penny Carnival to fund girls needs, a pep club for boys and girls, and the renowned Sports Nights at BHS to raise money. She ensured there were intramural sports five days a week and helped “play days” grow to Tri-County Competitions. One of her greatest accomplishments was being “Santa Claus” to poor children for 23 years. Upon retirement she moved to Ocean Lakes in Surfside, SC. She was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St Michael’s in Garden City for decades.

Pat enjoyed golf, reading and gardening and was a skilled stain glass artist in juried shows. She had a love for all animals and a special bond with her beloved dog Scruffy, cats Butterscotch and Precious and the birds who visited her deck. She was known for her humor and hysterical antics; There was always laughter when she told a story.

Her parents Pauline and Louis Moretto and her aunt Ella Long predeceased her. She is survived by her brother Louis (Camille) Moretto, nieces Michele (Tony) Slominski, Mari (Donnie) Lee, Lisa (Lori) Moretto and nephew Mark (Lisa) Moretto. She has several great nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday September 10, 2026 from 4:00-7:00pm at Gilmartin Funeral Home 329-333 West Main St. Batavia, New York 14020. A 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Dick Czismar on Friday Sept. 11th at Ascension Parish at 19 Sumner Street in Batavia. She will be interred in St. Joseph’s Cemetery beside her parents.
