Maryjane Sallome

October 14, 1938 — August 30, 2025

MaryJane (Pappalardo) Sallome, 86, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 14, 1938, in Batavia, she was the daughter of Anthony and Carmelina (Pastanella) Pappalardo, who had immigrated from Italy to build a life for their family. Together, they established a grocery store on Ellicott Street, where the Pappalardo name still exists today. MaryJane took great pride in her Italian heritage and the traditions it carried.

She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1956 and, the following year, married the love of her life, Samuel Sallome. The two celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this past June, a testament to their deep devotion to one another.

In her early years, MaryJane dedicated herself to raising their children before later working as a Crossing Guard with the City of Batavia Police Department and a Lunch Aide with the City of Batavia School District until her retirement. She was also a proud member of the Sertoma Wives and Daphne Damsels for many years. MaryJane and Sam cherished their winters in Florida, escaping the snow and returning with small treasures she eagerly shared with her grandchildren.

A gifted cook, MaryJane could prepare nearly any dish with love and care. She also enjoyed crocheting, creating countless blankets, sweaters, and booties for family and friends, especially to welcome new babies. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, and she loved camping and fishing, often spending many early mornings on Silver Lake.

MaryJane is now reunited with her beloved son, David, who passed away in 2019, and whom she missed dearly, along with her mother, Carmelina; father, Anthony; stepfather, Thomaso Alberti; sister, Antoinette; baby sister, Joan; and many cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Samuel Sallome, their three sons: John (Marianne) Sallome of Batavia, Stephen (Penny) Sallome of Irondequoit, and Samuel II (Jaime) Sallome of Batavia. MaryJane was the proud grandmother of eight: Jenna (Ryan) Meisner of Attica, Emily Sallome of Rochester, John (Katherine Rustay) Sallome Jr. of Batavia, Adam Fisher (fiancé Michael Burke) of Amherst, Maria Sallome (fiancé James Faulkner) of LeRoy, Stephen Sallome Jr. of Charleston, SC, Samuel (Kelly Oleski) Sallome III of Chili, and Emma (Riley Pastusznyski) Sallome of Batavia. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Alivia Forkey, Blake Fisher, and Ryker Meisner, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will remember her with love.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. A 9:30AM Rite of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at Resurrection Parish 303 East Main St. Batavia, NY 14020. She will be buried at Grandview Cemetery at a later date.
