Marlene Ruth Hohl

Marlene Ruth (Yoder) Hohl, 75, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026 in hospice care at Rochester General Hospital. After a long struggle with health issues, she passed pain free in the presence of family and loved ones, even helping the Bills squeak out one more win.

Born August 23, 1951 in PA, she moved early to Arcade where she was a wild child, causing plenty of trouble for her sister, Mona Rae (Yoder) Huber, and brothers, Daniel M Yoder, Michael R Yoder, John E Yoder Jr., and Lynden R Yoder. She lived life to the fullest and learned to love deeply. That love she carried and spread to all who had the joy of being in her presence.

Developing from a wild child to a flower child, she set her roots in a loving home in Chaffee where she instilled her spirit in her children, James Adam Hohl, Samantha Lee Hohl, and Raymond Vincent Daniel Hohl. From there, not a day went by that her care and creativity didn’t spread to the community around her. A “stay at home mom” does not begin to describe her family life. She not only raised her three little ones but also, on most days, half the children in the neighborhood. She was constantly painting and crafting, gardening, teaching kids how to swim at the town park, caring for a horde of pets, organizing euchre tournaments and parties, all with a smile on her face and a laugh that would just never go away even in her final days!

Always caring for everyone around her before herself, she eventually moved to Batavia to take care of her mother, Helen E Withrow, before her passing. Marlene cared for everyone in her apartment complex, where she was known for the Christmas dinner she would make from a wheelchair and pass out to all her hallmates.

She lives on forever from Heaven watching her spirit live on in all she touched in her short 75 years on this Earth. She reunites with her mother, her father, John E Yoder, her brothers Dan, Michael, and John, and her cat who carried her through much of her health troubles late in life, Mr. Gray (named appropriately after the kind alien in “The Dreamcatcher”). She waits ahead for her sister Mona, brother Lynden, children Michael Boyd, James, Samantha, Raymond, nephews and nieces Amanda J Dietrick, Curtis F Dietrick, Molly E (Huber) Ologun, and great-niece Abiodun J Ologun.

Marlene wanted the family to remember her privately together, so no ceremony will be held.

Any love and support you care to show in her name can be directed to an animal rescue of your choice or to Roswell Cancer institute.
