Keith W. Hunt

Keith W. Hunt, 78, of Batavia passed away on October 30, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rochester on November 24, 1946 to the late William Jr. and Emily (Oakden) Hunt.

He is survived by his wife; Janice (Pacino) Hunt; sons Robert (Evelyn) Hunt of Batavia, Chad (Roxanne) Hunt of Batavia, Jeffrey Konarski of Batavia and John (Melissa) Konarski of Great Valley, NY; siblings Dennis (Cindy) Hunt of Albion and Marlene Hunt of Webster; 7 grandchildren Colin, Austin, Alex, Andrew, Gaege (Ashley), Blaise and Marley; 2 great-grandchildren Leo and Georgia, along with several nieces and nephews.

Keith will be remembered as a dedicated firefighter who served his community with courage and compassion. Beyond his years of service, he was a passionate train enthusiast who loved sharing his knowledge and stories with others. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his wife watching trains together, a pastime that reflected both his curiosity and his love of simple moments. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, and his grandchildren brought him endless joy and laughter.

Keith began his lifelong commitment to protecting and serving his community with the Bergen Volunteer Fire Department shortly after graduating high school. At the age of 19, he joined the City of Batavia Fire Department in 1966. He later took a brief break from the fire department to serve as a City of Batavia police officer before returning to his true calling in the fire service. Through hard work, leadership, and integrity, he rose through the ranks and proudly retired as Fire Chief in 1997. In 1981, he became a coordinator with the Genesee County Emergency Management Services and continued in that role for several years after his retirement as well as serving with the Town of Batavia Fire Department with his two sons.

Those who knew Keith will always remember his caring nature, his kindness toward everyone he met, and his wonderful sense of humor that could brighten any day. He touched many lives with his generosity and good spirit, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, love, and friendship.
