Josephine "Joady" Offhaus Schroth

Josephine “Joady” Offhaus Schroth, 88, of Batavia passed away on August 20, 2026 at Rochester General Hospital. She was born on March 18, 1938 to the late George and Martha Ertell.

She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1955, then worked as a secretary at Fisher Price Toys in East Aurora. Joady married Gordon Offhaus in 1958 and had two sons; Daniel and Scott. Gordon and Joady operated a rented dairy farm from 1959 until 1972 then purchased a farm in Batavia. In the 80’s, Joady entered the Real Estate business with Nothnagle Real Estate in Batavia where she enjoyed many co-workers, clients and business associates for over 30 years. In 2007 she married Alfred Schroth and retired in 2012 and moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and enjoyed the warm climate for many years. In March of 2026 she and Al moved back to New York to be with family and friends. Al passed away in early July. She enjoyed golf, arts & crafts with Sis, traveling, antiques and spending time with her sister Lorainne.

Joady enjoyed her grandchildren the most and will be remembered for her “Get it Done” attitude, kindness to family and friends, business ability and donation of time to the Lutheran Church of Batavia and Florida, Crossroads House and many other foundations and charities.

She is survived by her sister; Lorainne (Butch) Holtz; sons Daniel (Shelly) Offhaus and Scott Offhaus; grandchildren Travis (Cassy) Offhaus, Sarah (Jae) Yandow, Levi Offhaus, Elizabeth Offhaus and Danielle Offhaus, along with 5 great-grandchildren.

Joady is predeceased by her husband; Alfred Schroth six weeks prior; survived by Daniel (Laura) Schroth, David (Laurel) Schroth, Diane (Richard) Lewis, Douglas Schroth; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

There will be no prior calling hours. A 4:30PM Funeral Service will be held on Saturday September 12, 2026 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 31 Washington Ave. Batavia, NY 14020. Joady will be laid to rest at Maple Rest Cemetery in Porterville, NY.
