It is with great love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas J. Smith, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Doug’s life was defined by hard work, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to the people he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife; Valerie (Maniace) Smith; children Scott (Melissa Groff) Smith, Eric (Kimberly Muoio) Smith; siblings Kathi (Robert) Peffer, Pamela (Butch Keene) Smith, Deanna DeGeest and Arthur (Tricia) Smith; grandchildren Dominic, Annabelle and Adriana. He is predeceased by his father; Douglas L. Smith; mother and stepfather Angeline (Otto) and Ronald Oliver; in-laws Samuel J. and Nicolina (Cervoni) Maniace; and his grandson Landon Smith.
Doug retired from Aludyne, formerly Automotive Corporation in Batavia, NY, where he served proudly as Plant Manager. His strong work ethic, leadership, and integrity left a lasting mark on all who worked beside him.
Family was the center of Doug’s world. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who poured his heart into every moment spent with those he cherished. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, and they, in turn, were endlessly grateful for the love, guidance, and gentleness he offered so freely.
An outdoorsman at heart, Doug found peace and joy in fishing and hunting, passions that connected him to nature and brought him many memorable experiences over the years. He also treasured his Thursday morning rituals—coffee at FOT in Le Roy with his friends, sharing stories, laughter, and the simple comfort of good company.
Doug wore his heart on his sleeve. He was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone in need, always thinking of others long before himself. His generosity and sincerity touched countless lives and created a legacy of kindness that will endure for years to come.Though Doug will be deeply missed, those who knew him will forever carry his spirit in their hearts his love, his strength, his compassion, and the quiet, steady warmth that made him so special. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love he gave so freely.
