Calvin Clyde Fleming of Bethany, NY, passed away at Strong Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 12, 2026. He was 70 years old.
Calvin was born on October 22, 1955, in Batavia to Norman and Joyce (Koester) Fleming. He attended Alexander High School, graduating in 1973. His natural aptitude for all things mechanical was honed through training at BOCES. He drove tractor-trailer over the road and worked as an electrician. He later joined Agway Energy Products as a delivery driver, staying on through the transition to Suburban Propane, where he was Distribution Manager at the time of his retirement in 2018.
Calvin could build and repair anything. Electrical, construction, plumbing, automotive – he could do it all. In the words of his wife, Joanne, “He was a jack of all trades, and a master of most.”
Calvin enjoyed golf, spending time at his cottage at the Little Valley Rod and Gun Club where he was on the board of directors, the many trips to Camp Brookline in Bridgton, Maine, and being with his sons and grandchildren.
Calvin is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Joanne (Downie) Fleming; his sons, Matthew Fleming of Woodland Park, CO and Ryan (Jocelyn) Fleming of Lancaster, NY; his grandchildren, Liam, Rowan, Elliot, Ezra, and Scarlett; his brothers, Paul (Louise) Fleming and Dana (Kathy) Fleming, both of Bethany, NY; a niece and nephew; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is also survived by his cherished golden retriever, Kelly.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Gilmartin Funeral Home 329-333 West Main St. Batavia, NY 14020 from 4 - 7 p.m. Services will be held on Friday, June 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church 405 E. Main St. in Batavia.
