Betty Jean Duckworth

Betty Jean (Snell) Duckworth left this earthly world at the age of 90 in the early hours of December 4th, 2025 at United Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by family.
She will be remembered for being a fiercely independent woman of incredible strength and resilience. She kept a sense of humor through times of hardship, and always had concern for the well being of others.

Betty was born in Oakfield NY on October 30th, 1935 to Ronald F. and Margaret C. Snell (Sinn). She did not finish high school, but that didn’t hold her back from having a full career in health care at St. Luke’s Nursing Home and then St. Jerome’s Hospital in Batavia. She met many lifelong friends, a few of whom she still kept in touch with.Though in the last couple years she had been limited in sight and hearing, she had previously enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, spending time with family and especially loved shopping for jewelry and purses.

Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of her children Sharon (Mark) Fite and Maureen (Michael) Gober; her grandchildren Jolene (Anthony) Beckman, Amanda Fite (Tim Hoats) and Emma (William) White; great grandchildren Dylan, Sophie, Amelia Beckman and Micah White. She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Carl E. Duckworth and daughter Terry L. Firestone.

There will be no calling hours and a Graveside Service will be held at a later date in the spring.

Memorials in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org. To leave an online message of condolence please visit www.gilmartinfuneralhome.com. Arrangements completed by Gilmartin Funeral Home, 329-333 West Main Street, Batavia, New York 14020.
