Sigmund "Ziggy" Karas

12/16/1922 - 7/23/2010
History:
Mr. Karas was born in Depew, NY son of the late Casimer (Valeria Vicinski) Karas. Ziggy was a muck farmer, worked at GTE Sylvania in Batavia and retired from Trojan Industries in Batavia after 23 years. He was a past member of the Batavia Moose Club and St. Padre Pio Parish (Our Lady of Fatima) for many years. Ziggy was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Msgr. Kirby Council of the Knights of Columbus in Batavia and was a member of Holy Family Church in Albion. Preceded in death by his first wife Pearl (Trybek) Karas in 1988; second wife Anna (Gavel) Mickey Karas in 2009; brothers William, Joseph, and Edward Karas and a sister Mary Hamera.

His children Stephen (Deborah) Karas of Albion; Barbara (Bill) Hepola of IL., 7 step-children Joseph Mickey of Elba; Gary (Tina) Mickey of Brockport; Linda (Robert) Cunningham of Orchard Park; Susan Mickey of Batavia; Carol (A.J.) Gifaldi of Holley; Sharon (Steve) Lauzze of Corfu; Nancy Mickey of Batavia; sisters-in-law Clara Karas of Elba; Josephine Trybek of Mt. Morris; five granddaughters Allison (Andy) Poker of NJ; Carly Hepola of Washington, D.C.; Sarah and Rachel Karas both of Albion; Nicole Mickey of Batavia; great-granddaughter Magdalena Poker of NJ; 8 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation:
Friends may call from 4 to8 PM on Tuesday July 27th at the Funeral Home.
Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 AM at St. Padre Pio Parish (Our Lady of Fatima Church 65 South Main St. Elba, NY 14058) on July 28, 2010.

Burial:
Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.
